With the rise in demand for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, The Pokémon Company has acknowledged that some fans are finding it difficult to purchase cards and is “actively” working to print more.
In a statement released Wednesday, The Pokémon Company explains that very high demand and global shipping constraints have impacted the ability to bring the cards to as many people as possible.
The statement reads:
We’re aware that some of you are experiencing difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game products due to very high demand and global shipping constraints impacting availability. We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are working to address it where it is within our control.
In situations where there is limited availability, we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to support this increased demand. Reprinted products are expected to be available at retailers as soon as possible.
For new Pokémon TCG expansions launching in the future, we are maximizing production to increase product availability upon release, and we will continue to reprint the products to replenish stock at retailers as soon as possible.
We’d like to thank the community for their continued support and patience as we work to deliver more Pokémon TCG products to fans.
Pokémon cards have been in the news recently due to the aforementioned rise in demand for the collectables.
Most recently, the McDonald’s Happy Meal Pokémon campaign has proven to be a big hit. Fans have gone to McDonald’s to buy up tens, and sometimes hundreds, of Happy Meals to try and get every exclusive card that is being distributed.
Others have bought up the cards and tried to re-sell them on the secondary market for much more than what a Happy Meal is worth.
This fervor for Pokémon cards is typically tied to the resale market. You can find tons of videos on YouTube of collectors purchasing and opening up older Pokémon sets in hopes to find rare cards.
While many are collectors, there are others who plan to re-sell particular cards for an exorbitant amount of money. It wasn’t that long ago that a set of mint condition Pokémon cards was sold for more than $100,000.
Shining Fates is the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion and is set to release on February 19 featuring over 190 new cards.
